Further product development plan
Based on MVP validation, competition analysis, results of previous interviews and the feedback from proof of concept presentation we made some changes to our design.
Since there are already available shirts or vests that track posture and are connected to mobile app, we wanted to differentiate our design from those. We designed to differentiate with features and the user interface and interactions.
The ideas that we consider valuable are automatic workspace adjustment, meaning that the tables, chairs, lamps and screens are adjusted automatically for the user. This brings another design plan to surface, which is the user recognition. Like in our previous concepts, the automatic user recognition is crucial for the automatic workspace adjustments and for the safer usage of the product itself.
The difference between our product and the existing ones is the fact that it is notifying the user about his/hers/its posture and makes the adjustments to it accordingly. Additional posture feature to the notifying is self hardening material. With the self hardening material the user posture is gently adjusted. So in other words the posture notification system is a combination of vibration alerts and guidance towards correct posture. The latter happens through the haptic/tactile feedback caused by self hardening materials, directly to the posture.
During our evaluation and testing the physical adjustment to the posture is happening at the same time as the haptic feedback. The haptic feedback is firstly vibrating at the incorrect posture area and after that the self hardening material is adjusting the users posture gently. This is also a feature that can be turned off, in the case of emergencies etc.
There are things that we decide to leave out from the final product. One of them is the need for the link device (ring). Another one that we decided was to focus on the posture things during the testing and leave the identification to later product development.
In further evaluation we are planning to evaluate both the concept features and interaction design. Based on this we make a design of a second MVP and a prototype. Our plan is to make a video prototype or “video storyboard” which describes the product, its features and its use. We are planning to conduct user test and interviews. With the video prototype we can demonstrate the product for participants and interview based on that. We are also planning to conduct at least one on-site user test.
