Team formation of Add_name_here
Our group name as of now is ‘Add_name_here’. Our team consists of Sami Soininen, Jouko Makkonen
and Mikael Mansikka. The topic of our project is "Intelligent clothing and biometric information supporting work safety."
Sami Soininen is 3th year student and his major is mechanical engineering. He has also taken studies
in software systems.
Jouko Makkonen studies for 1st year in Master’s degree program in Human-Technology Interaction.
Prior to that he has a Master’s degree on Theology. In HTI studies Jouko focuses on UX and
human-centered design.
Mikael Mansikka is 4th year student at TUNI. His major is Signal Processing and Machine Learning.
For communication we use Whatsapp. For sharing files and creating text we use Google’s Cloud
services and Docs. Our blog is posted on Blogger.
We discussed about goals briefly. During that conversation was mentioned at least learning about
human-centered development, passing the course, getting company contacts and doing a project
that would be good enough to be added for individual work portfolio. All of these are not really so
called SMART goals (acronym for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound),
so in addition to these it would be wise to create something more concrete.
The more practical goals we discussed about were doing things on time, sharing workload equally,
and creating milestones, smaller goals on the way. About milestones we thought that we do not know
them yet but they should be remembered to made during the work. About showcasing we talked that
we aim to make such work and write this blog in a way, that it can be published with pride.
We haven’t yet agreed upon evaluation and reporting of individual contribution of team members.
We made an hour log and generally agreed on trying to distribute work equally and based on skills
and preferences. We also hoped to have a culture of open communication in our team.
In the 1st workshop we learned that our expectations on something that is described with words can
be somewhat different from what the real thing is. So creating the doll was quite educational experience.
1st workshop was also a good reminder about team building and other basic elements of successful
group working. Although lots of that information might feel basic things when gone through on lecture
slides, it might be wise to go back to them during the course and the team work (...or pretty much
every other team works as well). Getting back to these group working fundamentals can remind the
team about things that make working in a team more productive, enjoyable and that can solve
conflicts. All in all the 1st workshop was quite good.
